High Scardus Trail (HST) is a transnational mountain tourism product connecting the mountain ranges in the border areas of Albania, Macedonia, and Kosovo. The name originates from the Latin name for the Shar Mountain, the biggest massive in the region, Scardus or colorful mountain. And colorful is what the HST is in terms of landscapes, biodiversity, people, tradition, and food!
Moving along the trail, you will travel through Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania. You will go through settlements and villages, where communities of Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Serbs, Gorans and others live separately or together. The population in the cross-border region by religion is both Orthodox Christian and Muslim and the languages spoken are: Macedonian, Albanian, Serbian, and Turkish.
Enrich the hikes in the mountains with visits to cultural monuments, churches, mosques, monasteries, and Turkish tekes. Visit the local, family-run workshops, where the traditional way of making home products, handicrafts and materials characteristic for the region is passed down from one generation to another.
